Augustus First words

I've been terribly remiss with this list as it pertains to our adorable little Augie but here are some of the lad's latest. This weekend was big, he actually said 'why' for the first time. He's also starting to combine words so we are hearing things like help me and 'go mommy house'.
Sat Apr 2 knock knock, car, Dante asked me his first knock knock joke on the way back from car shopping.

June 25 'Way' I had no idea what this meant for a while till it became clear that he was saying "Go this way"
July 1 'Milk' Baba used to be good enough for his bottle, now he's getting specific about what he wants in it.
July 8 'hot dog'
July 9 'Share', 'Digger' and the big one - 'Why' when we were telling him he had to let go of something
July 10 'Help me' when he was trying to get on the bed "Put" as he pointed when requesting that I place his soccer ball in his little stroller
July 13 'fast boat' slow boat' which is cool cause he is differentiating between how fast things are going

A big leap forward in D's vocabulary today.

Today was what I'd have to call a banner day in terms of Dante's speech development. He used over 10 new words today that I'd never heard him say before. They were coming so often I had to write them down so I wouldn't forget them.
We went to see my father and where there for over two hours with my sister Gala. By the end of the visit Shlomo gave Dante a big hug and Dante - who'd been hearing the word all morning - called him Saba (grandfather in Hebrew). At Gala's the day before he had said 'fire' when we were sitting in front of the furnace and said it multiple times today. He said 'Shoes', 'Wheel' for his stroller and his cars. 'Dog' which he'd been trying to say up till now but kept coming out as god. 'Chicken' (!) at Yehudit and Noa's as well as 'Yellow' for the first time (he's been signing that word for months), 'Sea' 'Ma-im' (water in Hebrew) when I gave him his bath and maybe coolest of all, besides Saba, he said 'Par par' (butterfly in Hebrew) which up till now had just been Bee, for any kind of bug. They were coming out of him so fast at Yehudit's that they were almost one on top of each other. I'm smiling writing this.

I found him hiding in the trunk at the foot of my bed with his beloved pet Tiger that grandma gave him at Christmas time. Perhaps I won't need to buy him a toddler bed when he outgrows his crib :-)

New words

Liron and I were giving D lunch today and suddenly he was talking. I asked him if I could have a piece of his toast and he said "Lo Rotze" (I don't want to) then I asked if he liked his bread and he said "Ken" (yes). Liron and I were staring at each other because we were both hearing all this. Then I asked if it was correct that he liked toast with butter and he said "Nachon" (correct). I asked if he wanted this piece or that piece and he pointed at the one he wanted and said "Ze" (this).

Today was the day. A couple of days after this he wouldn't let me put his diaper and got a tremendous kick out of peeing all over my bed but it was so funny I didn't care.

Yogurt - Bl.......HELLO!!! Who just signed yellow at me for the first time? Dante!!

New words and signing

This last week Dante signed bottle/milk at me for the first time and has gotten very clear with that one, and up and down movement of the arm with fist clenched. He also started signing back 'change' when his diaper was being switched out. This is both hands held together and flipped back and forth over each other in a circle. This morning I asked for some help putting his books back on the shelf and he came over and helped me put all of them back. Never mind that an hour later the whole shelving unit including the shelves had been completely dissasembled and was lying on the floor. (photo taken in Sedona, AZ)

Connecting the Dots

We got back from Vegas tonite and had another lovely flight. Dante played for most of it and fell asleep for a few hours before we landed. No fussing, no crying. The only time he got a little testy was right before he fell asleep when he was exhausted and had some trouble figuring out a comfy position to fall asleep in. That ended up being on top of me. The woman who shared our aisle was great. She had her daughter with her who'd been competing in a cheerleading comp. in Vegas and an 8 year old.

What I wanted to write down were the new things he's put together just in the last week. We were taking a bath and he has figured out how to pour water on my head and direct the container towards me instead of just spilling it on himself. Last week he would try and pour it on me but up end it in his direction every time. Tonite he knew how to pour in the direction he wanted it to go in. He had an apple in the bath with him and there were bubbles. He tried taking a bite and didn't like it and then I noticed that he was rinsing the apple off and getting the soap bubbles off it and then taking a bite.

New words this week. Od is becoming a real word to him, Toda started in earnest a couple of weeks ago, Caca, Cat, Bamba (popcorn). He knows where his poopick and Af are. He said hi and hello this last week when we were in the playground and he was imitating a talkative parrot that someone had brought to the place.

He blew his first kiss at Teresa this last week, I think it was on Wednesday. She was leaving and we went to the door together and I was saying Bye Bye and waving and Teresa looked back at us at the elevator and blew him a kiss. He made a puckering, smacking sound back at her. Then yesterday in Vegas Christine was at her desk and blew a kiss at him and he blew one right back hand sweep and all.
